Welcome to the Village of Dellroy

The Village of Dellroy, "Small Town Paradise"

Dellroy, Ohio stands as a charming 268-resident village that has served as the eastern gateway to Atwood Lake since the 1930s, transforming from a railroad community called “Cannonsburg” into a beloved recreational destination. The village’s identity centers around its role as a lake community, strong volunteer fire department tradition, and commitment to preserving small-town values while serving outdoor enthusiasts from across the region.

History

Dellroy was established October 2, 1849 as “Cannonsburg” before being renamed to Dellroy in 1878. The area developed along the historic Great Trail trade route connecting the Ohio River forks to Lake Erie, with Carroll County formed in 1832 from portions of five surrounding counties. The community’s trajectory changed dramatically in the 1930s when Atwood Lake was created as a flood control project, inundating the original town of Atwood but transforming the region into a recreational haven. This $1.4 million dam project, completed in 1936, created 28 miles of shoreline that now defines Dellroy’s modern identity.
Current population stands at 268 residents according to the 2020 census.
